You and Shawn believe that it allowed them to understand the challenges associated with managing global human capital effectively and the value of recognizing human capital as a critical part of AGC’s strategic plan. John and the board of directors gave every indication that they understood the sense of urgency needed to align the key global human capital goals with those established for the entire global organization. In fact, they asked you to move ahead with developing global human capital goals for AGC as part of its strategic plan.

You will begin by evaluating the existing organizational culture and analyzing the leadership styles used at each global AGC subsidiary. The company has several global subsidiaries, each with significant cultural differences. Shawn believes that AGC would benefit from an organizational culture that is more proactive and competitive. Likewise, he believes that leadership development programs should focus on styles that recognize the importance of celebrating diversity, empowerment, and innovation.

Question 1:

Developing employees is different than training employees, though human resource functions often tend to group these activities together. Training and development are not always mutually exclusive, though they do have a different focus. Though training programs tend to be focused on improving employee performance in a current job, they may also be preparing employees for future assignments/jobs. In your own words, describe and provide at least one example of each of the following: 

a) the difference between employee development and training programs; 

b) how training programs can be used to support employee development; 

c) how training and development support career planning.

Question 2:

A) Imagine that you are preparing for your first performance feedback session with your employee. You want the session to be effective for the employee, so he/she will have the motivation and knowledge to improve performance. You also want to provide a valid, accurate evaluation of the employee’s performance. What are the steps that you would take to prepare for the session? What sources of data would you consider? Be specific and complete…I am looking for a detailed plan and not just a couple of quick sentences.

B) Assume the role of the employee. How would you need to prepare for your performance evaluation meeting?

A) Define and discuss in detail the two types of sexual harassment found in the workplace. Your answer should include the actions employers can take to create a legal defense and the actions a person subject to this type of treatment or who witnesses these actions can take. 

B) Evaluate the sexual harassment policies of your organization and the role of the human resource manager. How were they communicated? How were employees trained? Discuss three ideas to improve effectiveness in reducing cases of sexual harassment.

Your Supervising Manager called a meeting early Monday morning to discuss the tasks you will need to accomplish in this week. They were very complimentary about the efficiency of your performance and the quality of the submitted Memo. However, further investigation is necessary to make sure all areas of the managerial situation were covered accordingly.

You are asked to conduct research and to compile the information about the HC-specific stakeholders related to this situation using the table provided (see below).  Make sure to choose the stakeholders that will be involved in your area of expertise (as per your job description).

For example,

-the Clinical coordinator may choose the CDC (Center for the Disease Control) as a stakeholder due to the mandatory reporting and follow up on the guidelines. 

-CDC affiliated stakeholder would be a local health department that reacts to the situation based on CDC provided preparatory guidance. At the same time, the local health department would be a direct stakeholder for the Clinical Coordinator because its representatives will be directly involved in guiding potential public health issues at the site.

The briefing statement from week 2 and the stakeholder analysis from week 4 are the base for your week 5 group assignment- the linkage map.

Make sure to provide a minimum of four credible sources from the UMGC library, the stakeholder home website, and the information pertaining to two discussed stakeholders (one chosen direct and one affiliated to the direct stakeholder). Read the two articles below – the first from the NY Times and the second from Bloomberg news.  Then, tell us what the company’s justification for these moves were, how this aligns with what you just learned about compensation this week, and how you would advise executives considering such a move, if you were their HR leader.
