HRM 532 Week 8 Discussion: ‘Resistance to Talent Management and Leaders’ Intuition”

Strategy-driven talent management is considered the most effective way to acquire and maintain top talent. Develop three possible ways that senior leadership might resist the development of a strategy and one way to combat each of these types of resistance to ensure a sustainable talent management strategy remains in place.

Debate the value of leaders who profess to have their own methods to identify high-potential employees. Consider the risks involved with an unstructured method to select future organizational leaders.

What different considerations do human resource professionals need to examine when handling voluntary separations and involuntary separations? Explain your response, and use at least one academic source to support your points.

Employment Category Analysis

Write a 3–4-page analysis in which you examine the different categories of employment. Analyze the pros and cons of each type of worker from an employer’s perspective and then describe the ideal proportion of workers for a business type of your choosing. Provide a supporting rationale for your description.

Employment laws are based on the premise of the existence of an employment relationship. Defining whether an employment relationship exists between an employee and employer can be challenging in today’s workplace, because there are so many different forms of employment. Regular, full-time employment used to be the norm. Today, companies hire part-time, temporary, or contract employees; this has impacted the legal rights of the employees performing the work. These alternative work arrangements are often referred to as contingent, or non-standard, work.

It is important for HR practitioners and members of management to understand employment relationships and the classification of employees, because this can have a significant impact on the way an employee is paid. This also affects the application of employment laws.

The CEO of an organization has requested you to create a presentation to managers. The CEO has discovered that the management team of the organization understands very little regarding the possible negative outcomes from discrimination complaints. You have reviewed all of the policies regarding possible areas of discrimination. The CEO has requested that you prepare a presentation to explain these new policies and the reasons that these policies are necessary to avoid legal problems. Use any three major Federal EEO/AA laws as a frame work for your policies and your power point presentation. Write one policy statement that would ensure legal compliance with each of the Federal EEO Laws and include an analysis of the policy’s impact on managers. You want to emphasize the two major implications for each of the Federal laws on managers. In addition, you will provide one or two slides that discuss the methodologies the organization will use to resolve any issues regarding employment laws and policies internally to avoid costly external entities getting involved.
