Marketing and Business Plans

What is the difference between a marketing plan and a business plan?

A business plan covers the overall elements of business, including the strategic plan, financial plans, target markets, sales, products and services, and operations. The business plan also contains information on how all of these elements relate to each other.

A marketing plan, in contrast, focuses on the marketing and marketing strategy of certain products and services. Essentially, the marketing plan is tasked with identifying potential market areas while also addressing how to appropriately engage in marketing messages for those products or services to target populations.

Therefore, both marketing and business plans cement the foundations of how the organization of business will operate. They identify which populations are served and which products or services will most likely contribute to the viability of the business or organization. Specific to the health care administrator, the marketing and business plan should focus on effective health care delivery and capitalize on the unique health care services offered by individual health care organizations.

For this Discussion, review the concepts of a marketing, business, and strategic plan in the resources for this week. Reflect on how these plans contribute to business operations. Then consider the consequences a potential misalignment between these plans might hold for the business or organization.

Budgeting at CM Tech

In completing your reading for the week you learned about the benefits and challenges faced in the budgeting process.  You also learning about the importance of focusing organizational efforts on customers.  Chapter 22 introduced you to the many types of budgets, their importance, and the many ways that an organization can go about messing up the budgeting process.   In Chapters 24 and 25 we learned about the benefits of focusing our efforts on the customer.

You and Emma have already spent a good deal of time focusing on and discussing the accounting department at CM Tech.  Now it’s time to broaden the focus of your efforts.  Emma asks you for your thoughts on the budgets at CM Tech and how the team can integrate the concept of customer focus into the budgeting process.  Emma asks you to do some research for her.

Your research paper for Emma should include the following key elements: 

  1. What are the key problems that CM Tech could run into throughout the budgeting process that could reduce the effectiveness of their budget? 
  2. What should be done throughout the budgeting process to ensure the budget is tied to the organization’s strategies?  Why is this important?
  3. How can CM Tech include a solid customer focus throughout the budgeting process?  What benefits could be derived from ensuring the customer remains a key element of focus even during an internal process like budgeting?  Be sure to fully support your assertions in all three sections with reasoning, examples, and research.  

Your report should outline the key concepts in each area listed above and provide examples as appropriate.  Be sure your report is a minimum of 4 pages, includes an introduction and conclusion paragraph, title page, and references page.  The title and references pages do not count toward the total page count.

Read the Case Study

  • Summary of the professional’s conclusions related to       the client including the reason for referral and highlights of the       assessment. Definition of the problem discussed in terms of those  that are immediate, underlying, and working or long-term. Recommendations for a plan of action, including goals  that have been agreed upon with the client along with suggested times for follow-up

Your treatment plan goals need to  be measurable and labeled as short-term or long-term. They should connect  together to achieve an ultimate action. For example, you might work with a client  whose final goal is to resume shared custody of his child. This is clearly a  long-term initiative that will require steps for completion. Perhaps the client  needs to find safer housing and maintain stable employment. These would be  considered two short-term goals to help meet the long-term one. Each part of  the overall goal should be broken down into smaller, more manageable pieces. 

Each goal should consist of the  following:

  • A measurable action labeled as short-term or long-term
  • Specific actions necessary to meet the goal
  • Possible resources available to carry out the goal
  • Projected dates to complete the action
  • Additional parties that might be needed to help complete the goal
