HRM671 LEARNING THEORIES AND TECHNOLOGY

Bling-Bling, Inc. is a struggling jewelry outlet that provides modestly priced gold, silver and gemstone jewelry via kiosks placed in large malls. Since their products are made with lower quality and less expensive stones and lower levels of key ingredients (like gold) and since they do not rent or own building floor space, they can sell for prices that meet the needs of many mall shoppers. However, they have the on-going issue of training and retraining sales associates. BBI wants to beef-up their orientation program. You have been hired to build a low-tech training solution for these associates.

IN 300 WORDS ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTION:

Based on the information below, what are the key cognitive issues, and memory/attention factors that you will consider in your designs? Based on that analysis of the essential learning needs, what learning theories, modalities, methods and technologies would be most likely to meet the need? Explain your reasoning and support your opinions.

Bling-Bling, Inc Sales Associates Level 1 (kiosk-based):

  • Age: 18-30 (average age 19)
  • For 49% of sales associates this is their first job ever, while 39% indicate that they have held another full-time job, and another 9% indicate that this is their second job (i.e., they are already working 40+ hrs a week for another business), 3% did not respond.
  • Tend a mall kiosk during mall hours with 15 minute breaks every 2 hours.
  • Have a 40% turn-over in 90 days and a 75% annually
  • When surveyed about the work indicated that:
    • They are often bored by sitting in a kiosk with nothing to do
    • Do not have a phone (or at least not one provided by the company)
    • Their only computer is one provided by the company for posting sales and does not have internet or wireless access
  • When mall security were asked about Bling-Bling’s Sales Associates work practices, they indicated that:
    • “They’re just kids. Like all kids they spend more time on the phone or playing games on their iPods than working.”
    • “When a new one starts the first day, I show‘em how they will handle a money-changer con artist. None of them have ever heard of that. When I ask how they will handle someone ripping off some of the jewels, they don’t seem to know what your company wants them to do.”

Due Saturday by 6pm

When working in Human Services,  the intake process lays the foundation for building the helping relationship.  The way intakes are done can vary from agency to agency. Many organizations  will have specific forms or paperwork that the client will complete and go over with the Human Services professional. The information collected in the intake is only the beginning when it comes to learning about the client’s needs.

Human Services professionals need  to be mindful of how the intake discussion is communicated and documented. It  is important to keep the language neutral and objective. The professional must  not interject their own opinions or insights and the focus of the appointment  must be on gathering information.

This week you will submit the Intake and Assessment notes for your course project. A school worker sent this information (Case Study) to me as a child protective worker, From my standpoint, I must meet with the family and formulate my assessment.

Intake/Assessment  Notes- For this submission  you will create an  intake form that you would use in your initial meeting with the family. You  will need to document the specific phrases and/or questions that you would use  in order to obtain the information needed to work with the family. Be mindful  of the language used with the client during the intake.

  • Intake  Notes: Your intake notes should include questions or statements that collect information on the following as well as any additional information you feel is relevant:
    • Details related to each member of the  family (age, sex, grade in school, etc.)
    • Family Structure
    • Employment status
    • Family history related to marital status, moving, work, etc
    • Background with Human Services
    • Current life stressors (work, financial difficulties, substance abuse, etc.)
    • Current needs the client has
    • *Do Not worry about short term goals or Diagnostic  Impression*
  • Assessment Notes: Your assessment notes should document the information you know about the family from the referral.  Although the assessment notes will more than likely not be seen by the client, it is important that the language used maintains professionalism and  objectivity. You will want to include the following as well as any additional information you feel is relevant:
    • Note who made the referral
    • Identify the reasons for referral
    • Present the issues that you might address
    • Identify potential avenues of resources to explore

Human Resources Management 9

Your company promoted you to a management position in a new research facility in India. Surprisingly, you have adjusted to the new culture, language, and city, despite never having lived outside the country before. You arrive to work early to get a jump start on your day and notice on the payroll report that there are a few employees who have taken an occasional three-day weekend. None of the employees have taken a full week off, however. You know from previous management training classes that overworked employees are more prone to stress-related health issues and less safe at work. You must also consider the company’s bottom line. You want your employees to take more time off work to enjoy time with friends and family, but how? Please respond to the following questions:

  • Which motivational theory or theories do you think would help communicate the importance of vacation time to your employees?
  • How would you convince your employees that taking time off work is more beneficial in the long run for them and for the company?
